Marine warranty survey, delivered by the principal

SolarisTech now offers marine warranty survey as a core capability: independent procedure and documentation review, suitability survey and attendance on load-outs, project cargo and heavy-lift transports, tows, offshore installations and decommissioning operations, reported against the standard set out in the warranty clause of the policy. One point of substance first, because the industry is loose about it and we would rather be exact. Where SolarisTech is appointed as marine warranty surveyor under a policy warranty clause and accepted by the underwriters concerned, the scope includes issuing the Certificate of Approval for the approved operation. Appointment is made by the assured and is subject to underwriter acceptance. Where SolarisTech is not the appointed surveyor, the work is third-party review and attendance: we attend the operation, review the procedures and the supporting documentation, and issue a survey report setting out what we saw and how it measured against the specified standard. What makes the offering unusual is the delivery model. The procedure review, the suitability survey and the attendance are carried out by our founder, formerly Corporate Vice President, Global Marine Sectors at the American Bureau of Shipping and formerly Deputy Commissioner of Maritime Affairs for the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Clients deal with the surveyor who wrote the report, from the first document to the final submission, with no hand-off to a junior and no bench standing behind the signature. Every report names the reviewer who wrote it. That model has a consequence we state openly. We take on the campaigns one senior principal can attend properly, and we say so at scoping when a scope needs a resident team instead. On multi-spread or multi-port campaigns we tell you before appointment exactly what one senior surveyor can and cannot cover. Where a campaign needs more attendance than that, we say so rather than take the instruction and thin out the coverage. Underwriters get a report from someone who was actually there. Assureds get direct access to the judgment they are paying for. Our reports are prepared for the party that instructs us and for the purpose stated in the engagement. Reliance by any other party requires our written agreement.
