Founder, President & CEO
Thomas Blenk is a global maritime executive with more than 30 years of progressive leadership across the Americas, Asia, the Middle East and Europe, and one of the most credentialed figures in flag and classification working today. A U.S. Merchant Marine Academy graduate, a Harvard Business School Executive Education alumnus and a former Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, he has spent his career setting the standard that others are measured against.
He built that reputation over two decades at the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), advancing from new-construction Surveyor at Samsung Heavy Industries all the way to Corporate Vice President, Global Marine Sectors, where he led the Tanker and Dry Bulk businesses worldwide. Along the way he established ABS's primary surveyor training center in China and trained a quarter of the society's new Chinese surveyors.
He led ABS operations at every scale: as Country Manager for the United Arab Emirates his teams won back-to-back industry honours, including Lloyd's List's Best Classification Society award; as Vice President for North America he was accountable for 45 port offices and 300 staff; and as Vice President for the North Pacific he ran eight offices and more than 500 staff and drove ABS to the No. 1 newbuilding orderbook in South Korea.
As Deputy Commissioner of Maritime Affairs for the Republic of the Marshall Islands, based in Busan, Thomas served as the flag's representative for North Asia with direct responsibility for the IMO oversight program of Korean Register. He conducted flag-state inspections, ISM, ISPS and MLC audits and incident investigations across the Korean and Japanese fleets, partnered with Hyundai, Hanwha and Samsung Heavy Industries on joint development projects, and issued Approval-in-Principle certifications for next-generation decarbonization and alternative-fuel designs. During his tenure the Marshall Islands flag captured 22% of all Korean shipyard newbuilding deliveries.
His command of the field is unusually complete, spanning flag-state compliance, vessel inspection and auditing, classification-society oversight, port-state control, newbuilding program management, safety management systems, and decarbonization and alternative fuels, including the regulatory review of LNG, ammonia and CO2 carrier designs.
He founded SolarisTech to put that authority within reach of every owner, operator and administration, faster and sharper, through Nautilux AI™ and the SwiftAction™ Academy. As President & CEO he holds every output to the standard he built his career on. When Thomas signs off, regulators, owners and insurers listen.
